Having Eyes That See

   they seemed to be farther and farther apart, as I saw the last one come over the trees. And as I began to go inside, I heard another coming and then two and then five and back to twenties and fifties...hundreds? Sometimes the ones who appear to be way in the back of the pack, as time goes on and the whole scene is revealed are in reality very close to the front. Without the whole picture our senses can be distorted and our perception limited.
As the birds were flying this morning over my head I stopped to watch and listen and watch. At first there were two, and then more behind them. Twenty and fifty and a hundred squawking as they moved from one horizon past me overhead to the next. Hundreds turned to thousands, and then seemed to diminish until it seemed the last few were spread out further and further. I thought these poor few lagging in the back, ten then five then two then one and further back another until
